August 15, 2021 / Matthew 3:16-17 NIVEnergy Shifters Series
Week 3:
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.
17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
The word In-Security is a word that makes you think you are in a secure place when you allow a lack of confidence determine your quality of life.
If we zoom out in this scripture we see John The Baptist wrestle with insecurity himself.
Matthew 3:13-15 NIV
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
Isaiah 40:3 NIV
3 A voice of one calling:
“In the wilderness prepare
the way for the Lord[a];
make straight in the desert
a highway for our God.
What God has said about you is settled in His mind, He is just waiting for it to settle in yours!
Oftentimes, our insecurity stems from what people has said about us.
But if you get the revelation today that God has already spoken about you, you will live from a new place!
Matthew 4:4 NIV
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
So, the question becomes what has God said about you?
What God has said about you is the truth of who you are!
When you live from the truth of who God is, you live from the truth of who you are!
Sometimes, people will try to discredit you because they discredit themselves!
Insecurity often comes from the narratives people try to project on you.
Insecurity even comes through the narratives you tell about yourself.
If what other’s have said about you does not line up with what God has says about you, what they say about you is not truth!
Your quality of life is determined through your relationship with Christ!
God did not just create us to live a morally good life.
God created us to live a quality of life that brings glory to His name!
Your insecurities if they are not given to God, will cause you to live a quality of life that is inferior to the quality of life that God has for you!
Freedom is overcoming your default self.
Your default self allows insecurities to taint your life and create your quality of life!
Let’s get shifty!
Matthew 3:16-17 NIV
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.
17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
How Do We Intercept Insecurity?
We live from and not for it.
17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
God has already accepted you!
Living “from” a place is mindshift that causes you to live a better quality of life!
We live from and not for it.
Matthew 3:17 NIV
17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
God loves you!
You do not have to look for love in the wrong places!
Romans 5:8 NIV
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
We live from and not for it.
Matthew 3:17 NIV
17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
Oftentimes, we live for others to affirm us.
God has already affirmed you!
Affirmation from people is not bad, God’s affirmation is just better!
Ephesians 2:10 NIV
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
