Worship Matters

Synopsis: We come to the third essential ingredient in spiritual growth:

In today’s current climate, a proper understanding of worship is more important than ever. Is worship just a tagalong function of your everyday life, or should it be of utmost importance? Is worship just a matter of keeping your traditions, or is it important to worship as God has prescribed? What level of investment does a Christian need to make in worship? We will answer these questions and much more in this lesson.

Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:20-24, ESV)

1. Worship Should Be A

“…worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” (V.23)

– You Were  To Worship

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!” (Psalm 150:6 ESV)

– Satan  Us Not To Worship

“If you, then, will worship me, all will be yours.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.” (Luke 4:7-8 CSB)

2. Worship Should Be Done

– It Is Improper When Focused Upon Man’s

“Our fathers worshiped on this mountain…” (V.20) … “You worship what you do not know…” (V.22)

– It Is Proper When Focused Upon The  Of God

“You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth…” (V.22 & 23)

3. Worship Should Be Done

“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (V.24)

“These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.” (Matthew 15:8 ESV)
