Ephesians 5:31-32
Our Marital Union With Christ
December 26, 2021 / Ephesians 5:31-32For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This mystery is profound, but I am talking about Christ and the church. (Ephesians 5:31-32, CSB)
1. Jesus Paid the
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. (Ephesians 5:25, CSB)
You were redeemed from your empty way of life […] with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb. (1 Peter 1:18-19, CSB)
2. You Are to Christ
Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. (Matthew 1:18-19, ESV)
3. The for Preparation
In my Father’s house are many rooms […] I am going to prepare a place for you? If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also. (John 14:2-3, CSB)
For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:2, ESV)
Adulterers, don’t you know that friendship with the world means hostility toward God? So whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or, do you think that Scripture has no reason for saying that the Spirit, who lives in us, yearns jealously? (James 4:4-5, EHV)
4. The of the Groom for the Bride
“When the groom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. In the middle of the night there was a shout: ‘Here’s the groom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all the virgins got up and trimmed their lamps […] the groom arrived, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut.” (Matthew 25:5-7,10, CSB)
“Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.” Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” (Revelation 19:7,9, NIV)
