Gentle, GENTLE

Gentle Unity

1 Corinthians 1:10–17

The Destination: Unity

Psalm 133:1—“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.”

1 Peter 3:8—“Finally, all of you be like minded . . .”

John 17:21—“I pray . . . that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.”

Unity, not uniformity

Diversity, not division

Different Together

The Problem: Tribalism

1 Corinthians 1:11–12—My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.”

Inviting diverse and disconnected people to passionately follow Jesus together.

Ephesians 4:3—Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

1 Corinthians 1:13—Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?

The Solution: The Gospel

Philippians 3:20—“Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
