John 16:7–13 (ESV)
7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
Without the Holy Spirit our walk with God will be and our in the Kingdom as individuals and the church will be .
John 14:15-18(CSB)
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
- Jesus promised the Spirit would indwell believers and that the indwelling would be .
- The permanent indwelling of the Spirit is not for a few believers, but for believers.
1. The Holy Spirit is a gift to all believers in Jesus without exception
John 7:37-39
37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive…
2. The Holy Spirit is given at the moment of
Ephesians 1:13-14
13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
It is the of the Holy Spirit that is the Father’s official mark of
3. The Holy Spirit indwells believers
2 Corinthians 1:22
22 and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
Ephesians 1:14
14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
We can be with the Holy Spirit and not be with Him
- We can have the Holy Spirit but the abundant, overflowing and powerful Kingdom life is the result of the Holy Spirit working
- Though all Christians are equally not all Christians are equally and with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:4–5 (ESV)
4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
To have more of the Holy Spirit is to have more of the of God working in our lives.
The filling and empowering that comes as we receive the of the Holy Spirit is something we need to receive and again.
Acts 1:5 – you will be baptized
Acts 2:4 – And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Our experience with the Holy Spirit is not a one and done experience – but a encounter.
We have to receive the Holy Spirit and be by Him
Ephesians 5:18
be filled by the Spirit:
- TOTALLY
Acts 19:2–6 (ESV)
And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.”
4 And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying.
The only way to test whether or not you have received the Holy Spirit is to look for the marks of Him on your life.
2 Timothy 1:6–7 (ESV)
6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
