Sermon Series: How Can It Be?

Big Thought Today: No Ordinary Response

Because God’s Love & Devotion is so extravagant & beyond our ability to even comprehend, our response to His love cannot be ordinary. Our response should go above & beyond by loving Him with our whole being & loving our neighbor as we love our self.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart & with all your soul & with all your mind & with all your strength.’  The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”  Mark 12:30-31

A. Put God First

Because of God’s extravagant love for us, He deserves to be first in our lives.  Exodus 20:3

   (1)  First in Our Affection

Affection is a powerful force because what we place our affection on, determines the course of our lives.  God should have first place in our heart.  Then He’ll have preeminence in everything we do & will be able to lead us to an abundant life in Him.  Mark 12:30, James 4:1-2, Colossians 3:2, John 10:10

  (2)  First in Our Attention

God cares for us & wants to be involved in our daily lives.  We need to place our attention on Him by acknowledging Him in all our ways. Mark 12:30, Proverbs 3:6, John 16:7, John 16:30, Romans 8:5-6, Romans 8:12

  (3)  First in Our Ability

Because of His great love for us, He deserves our very best – not what’s left.  All of our strength & ability.  Mark 12:30, Luke 6:27-30, 1 Corinthians 15:10, Colossians 3:23

B. Include Them

Life can be very busy with trying to raise a family & all of our responsibilities.  We need to be reminded to love outside of our circle & love our neighbor as well.  We need to Care enough to Share.  Mark 12:31

  (1)  Share Your Goods

1 John 3:17, 18 “whoever has this world’s goods, & sees his brother in need, & shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed & in truth.”

  (2)  Share Your Grace

Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind & tender-hearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.”

  (3)  Share Your God

Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world & preach the good news to everyone.”

Next Steps

1. “What is Jesus speaking to me through this teaching today?”

2. “How can I apply this to my life?”

3. “Who can I share what I’ve learned today with?”
