PULL UP A CHAIR – 4

HOME RUN LIFE

I. WHAT DOES A HOME RUN LIFE LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?”  Mark 8:36 (NASB)

II. AN EXAMPLE OF A HOME RUN LIFE – Joseph (Genesis 37-50)

  • HAS A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master (i.e. Potiphar). When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.  Genesis 39:2-4 (NIV)

20bBut while Joseph was there in the prison, 21 the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. 22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. 23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did Genesis 39:20b-23 (NIV)

  • TRUSTS GOD’S LEADING

15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream, and no one can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” 16 “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”  Genesis 41:15-16 (NIV)

25 Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dreams of Pharaoh are one and the same. God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do”.  . . .  28 “It is just as I said to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do. . . . 32 The reason the dream was given to Pharaoh in two forms is that the matter has been firmly decided by God, and God will do it soon. . . .”  39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. 40 You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.” 41 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.”  Genesis 41:25, 28, 32, 39-41 (NIV)

  • UNDERSTANDS GOD’S PURPOSE IN STRUGGLE AND SUCCESS

7 “But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.  So then, it was not you who sent me here, but GodHe made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt. Now hurry back to my father and say to him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; don’t delay.’”  Genesis 45:7-9 (NIV)

20 “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”  Genesis 50:20 (NIV)

III. HOW CAN WE LIVE A SPIRITUAL LIFE THAT IS A HOME RUN?

  • FIRST BASE – SALAVTION/CONNECTION WITH GOD’S FAMILY

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.   John 3:16 (NIV)

12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.  1 Corinthians 12:12-14 (NIV)

  • SECOND BASE – SPIRITUAL GROWTH

1Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.  2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)

  • THIRD BASE – SERVING GOD AND OTHERS

10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.  1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.  1 Corinthians 12:7 (NIV)

  • HOME PLATE – SENT TO “GO AND TELL”

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
