CALLED – 1

IS GOD CALLING ME?

Rick Warren: “Nothing matters more than knowing God’s purposes for your life, and nothing can compensate for not knowing them” (PDL, p. 29).

Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.”  Ephesians 4:1 (NLT).

1. CALLING IS MORE ABOUT THE “WHO” THAN THE “DO”

“He (God) has saved us and called us to a holy life – not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.” 2 Timothy 1:9 (NIV).

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to become conformed to the image of his Son.”  Romans 8:28-29 (NASB).

“But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior.”  1 Peter 1:15 (NASB).

2. CALLING IS NOT ABOUT SOMETHING IMPORTANT YOU DO IN THE FUTURE; IT’S ABOUT YOUR FAITHFULNESS TO JESUS TODAY

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”  Colossians 3:17 (NIV).

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him (God), for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”  Hebrews 11:6 (NASB).

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord (by faith), so walk in him.”  Colossians 2:6 (NASB).

“We walk by faith and not by sight.”  2 Corinthians 5:7 (NASB).

SPIRITUAL LIFE – “Life of Christ reproduced in the life of the Christian by the Power of the Holy Spirit, as the Christian lives by faith through the power of the Spirit in dependence on the truth of God’s Word.”

3. THE SIZE OF YOUR ASSIGNMENT NEVER DETERMINES THE SIGINIFICANCE OF YOUR IMPACT

As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethpage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives.  Jesus sent two of them on ahead.  Mark 11:1 (NLT).

“Go into that village over there,” he told them.  “As soon as you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden.  Untie it and bring it here.  If anyone asks, ‘What are you doing?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it and will return it soon.’”  Mark 11:2-3 (NLT).

Erwin McManus, “You rarely know up front the eternal significance of a moment.  When a moment is missed, you have a glimpse at an opportunity lost.  Yet the only moment that you must take responsibility for right now is the one in front of you.  This is your moment.  Your challenge is not seizing divine moments, but seizing your divine moment.”  (Seizing Your Divine Moment, p. 10).

Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.”  Ephesians 4:1 (NLT).

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”  Matthew 6:33 (NLT).
