Marriage Is Like Coffee

July 25, 2021

God designed marriage to be a team sport. It’s you and your spouse pursuing the same oneness and unity that God experiences with Himself. But this is a lot easier said than done!

I. A quick reminder from last week:

  1. If we want to experience and enjoy a Christ-centered home, it comes from building a Christ-centered marriage.
  2. A Christ-centered marriage happens when both individuals allow God to use the marriage to satisfy AND sanctify them in order to showcase His love through them.

II. What does pursuing oneness look like in real life?

  1.  “This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.” – Genesis 2:24 –
  2. It’s pursuing , not just .
  3. It’s sharing the same , not just the same .

III. What type of space is your marriage in?

    1. Space – “I’m Leaving.”
    2. space – “I’m better than you.”
    3. Space – “We can coexist.”
    4. Space – “We can enjoy each other.”
    5. Space – “We make each other better.”
      1. Proverbs 27:17 – “Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another.”
      2. Song of Solomon 2:25 – “Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards—for our vineyards are in bloom.”

    IV. Two critical elements

    1. = What I about you.
    2. = Our ability to be and with each other.
    3. Making each other better requires and . This is what leads to .

    V. Talk about it together

    1. What space are we in?
    2. If we only increased trust or transparency, which one would benefit our marriage the most?
