“Enlarge My Coast” – 1 Chronicles 4:9-10

1 Chronicles 4:9 And Jabez was more honorable than his brethren: and his mother call his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

1 Chronicles 2:55 And the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez; the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and Suchathites. These are the Kenites that came of Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab.

Many Bible scholars believe that Jabez was the father of a group of people known as the “Kenites” who were known as doctors of the Law and followers of God. The city called “Jabez” was evidently named after him.

1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

1 Chronicles 4:10a And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!

Don’t give control of your life to anything or anyone other than God, and as you do His Spirit will empower and enable you for whatever life brings your way.

1 Chronicles 4:10b And God granted him that which he requested.
