“As to The Lord, And Not unto Men” – Colossians 3:18-4:1
When it comes to relationships at home, on the job, and in the church, Jesus is “Enough.”
Apart from Christ, we are not fully equipped to make the most of our relationships. But when we put off the old life and put on the Christ-life, we have exactly what we need to elevate every relationship in our life.
I. Husbands and
Colossians 3:18-19 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
Ephesians 5:21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order. “Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.”
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.
II. Parents and
Colossians 3:20-21 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
III. Employees and
Colossians 3:22-4:1 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God; and whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons. Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
Matthew 25:21a His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant.
Do your work for God.
When we can consider marriage, parenting, and our job, we can see the sufficiency and preeminence of Christ.
