“The Power of Honor.”
Text: Mark 6:1-6
Who you give honor to will make a difference in what God will do in your life. Psalm 19:7-11
RE: This sermon series teaches us to provide honor, and how we are blessed when we bestow honor, give honor, and teach our children to honor those who will guide and lead their life.
When we understand honor, and how we should participate in the company of honor-It will change your life.
Romans 13:7 –“Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.”
*Where Jesus was honored, He did many miracles. He healed the sick, raised the dead, and He did many miracles.
*Where Jesus wasn’t honored. There were few miracles, and sometimes no miracles. It didn’t say He wouldn’t, it didn’t say He was pouting. It says he couldn’t.
The power of God does not work in an atmosphere of dishonor & unbelief.
We have to move into a position of honoring those things that God wants to honor.
WHO you choose to honor and WHAT you choose to honor
will determine the working of God in your life.
5 THOUGHTS ABOUT HONOR
1. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW. Galatians 6:9
If you sow dishonor, you will reap dishonor.
If you sow honor, you will reap the virtues of honor.
HONOR: “High respect; great esteem. A title of respect given to or used in addressing a judge or a mayor. Something regarded as a rare opportunity, and bringing pride and pleasure; a privilege. A thing conferred as a distinction, especially an official award for bravery, achievement or position.”
I Samuel 2:30
Honor opens windows of blessings.
Dishonor shuts the windows of blessings.
I Samuel 2:30 -“Lightly esteemed.” [Someone unworthy of the consideration for respect.” -You are not worthy of consideration.
Cold-Hard conservative truth: If you are not a believer in Jesus Christ, and serve the Lord – then you are dishonoring God.
John 5:23, “He who does not honor the Son, does not honor the Father who sent Him.”
If you don’t honor Jesus, you don’t honor God.
WHAT you sow is WHAT you reap, WHERE you sow is WHERE you reap, HOW you sow is HOW you reap.
2. WHEN YOU HONOR PEOPLE, YOU HONOR GOD. I Peter 2:17
You cannot honor God, if you don’t honor the Son.
You cannot honor the son if you don’t honor people.
PRINCIPLE: Jesus did not honor that which was dishonorable with people who acted dishonorably.
WHO YOU HONOR – WHAT YOU HONOR –WILL DETERMINE GOD’S
BLESSINGS IN YOUR LIFE!
WHAT YOU DISHONOR AND WHO YOU DISHONOR WILL DETERMINE GOD’S
BLESSINGS ON YOUR LIFE.
3. WHEN YOU HONOR YOUR PARENTS, YOU HONOR YOURSELF.
Ephesians 6:1-3
Honoring your father and mother doesn’t just mean speaking good about them, and saying nice things, it means that you become friends as you age by the respect you have for them, and you take care of them when they get older.
-“Honor” [root]= “honorarium” – financial investment.
-If our parents have a need in their lives. It is our responsibility to take care of them. It is not their neighbors; it is not the government; it is not the state. It is our job.
4. WHEN YOU HONOR YOUR EMPLOYER, YOU HONOR GOD.
Ephesians 6:5-8
5. WHEN YOU HONOR SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY – YOU HONOR GOD’S CHURCH. I Timothy 5:17
Ephesians 4:11-14 (God called Apostles, Prophets, Pastors, Teachers & Evangelists-5 fold ministry)
Hebrews 13:17; I Timothy 4:13; Matthew 10:41
How you respect and disrespect the relationships in your life will either enlarge or shut your rewards down.
