Love Never Gives Up!

February 16, 2020 / 13:

Text: I Corinthians 13:7

“LOVE NEVER GIVES UP!”

I.  WHAT LOVE LOOKS LIKE WHEN IT IS COMMUNICATED. Vs. 1-3

A. We have tongues of men and angels.

B. Christian “good works” seem commendable.

  • Human sacrifice (Works) is not good enough.
  • Good works, good gifts without love is nothing.

Matt. 22:39; John 13:35 ; John 15:12; Romans 12:9; I Thess. 3:12

The truth is this- “No matter how charismatic our gifts, if love is not the factor, then it is all for nothing.”

II. WHAT LOVE LOOKS LIKE IN OUR FAITH. Vs. 4-10

LOVE: Greek= AGAPE “benevolent charity” the kind that gives.

  • LOVE IS PERFECT. God’s love is mature. V.10
  • Tongues cease when knowledge ceases. Vs. 8
  • PERFECTION is when God’s kingdom comes.

A. Faith will no longer be needed when that which is perfect has come.

  • I live by faith that Jesus has a kingdom.
  • One day we shall behold Jesus face to face.
  • Faith will give way to sight, and hope will give way to experience.
  • We will lay OUR HOPE down at the gate.

B.  How can someone in the gifts of the Spirit, stay in love?

  • There was a problem in the early church regarding the character and spiritual gifts.
  • Superior attitudes are not needed with the operation of the gifts of the Spirit.
  • We should be humbled when we are used in gifts.

LOVE…THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE

III. WHAT MATURITY LOOKS LIKE IN ACTION. Vs.11-12

A. The three-fold test of maturity. Vs. 11

  • I SPEAK as a child.
  • I UNDERSTAND as a Child.
  • I THINK as a child.

When you grow up, things change.

When you grow up, you no longer talk, understand, and think immaturely.

B. We only understand in “part.” Vs.12

  • Some day we will see Christ in a clear reflection.
  • Problem Resolution: The rule in problem resolution is to seek to understand not to be understood. On earth, gender will never be fully understood.

POINT: God’s love does not include acceptance of lifestyles that are forbidden in scripture. (Adultery, fornication, incest, bestiality, pornography, prostitution, voyeurism, pedophilia, exhibitionism, sodomy, polygamy, polyamory, or same-sex sexual acts) The Assemblies of God has a strong stance on the biblical view of marriage.

POINT: God teaches us how to love. God teaches us how to give to one another. God teaches us how to believe in one another. Look for the best. Love never gives up!
