SERMON NOTES:

“Humanly speaking, it is possible to understand the Sermon on the Mount in a thousand different ways. But Jesus knows only one possibility; simple surrender and obedience—not interpreting or applying it, but doing and obeying it. He does not mean for us to discuss it as an ideal. He really means for us to get on with it.”

  1. THE CALL TO

Mark 1:14-15

Galatians 4:4-5

Dietrich Bonhoeffer:

“The only man who has the right to say that he is justified by grace alone is the man who has left all to follow Christ.

Such a man knows that the call to discipleship is a gift of grace, and that call is inseparable from grace.

But those who try to use this grace as a dispensation from following Christ are simply deceiving themselves.”

2. THE CALL TO BE

Mark 8:34b-37

Ravi Zacharias:

“I have little doubt that the single greatest obstacle to the impact of the gospel has not been its inability to provide answers, but the failure on our part to live it out.”

3. THE CALL TO A

Mark 1:17

J.R. Tolkien:

“This is it. If I take one more step, this is the furthest away from home I’ve ever been.” “Oh come on, Sam,” Frodo replies, “Remember what Bilbo used to say? ‘It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.’”
