SERMON NOTES:
Thomas Watson:
“Whenever you harm another human being, whenever you harm them physically, spiritually or emotionally, you are tearing God’s picture.”
- CALLED TO BE IN CHRIST
Shipyard management:
“Ladies and gentlemen, we do believe that your lives have been truly changed. Please don’t bring anything else back to us at all.”
Lewis Smedes:
“We know when a thug snatches a woman’s purse he is stealing. We are not sure whether a creative ad writer who woos money from people by subtle and seductive lies is stealing, but it is. We know an embezzler is stealing from a bank when he falsifies computer data. We are not sure whether or not a cooperation that bribes officials to get a deal without the lowest bid is stealing, but it is. We know that a burglar who takes a families TV is stealing but we are not sure whether a company is stealing when it exploits a poor nation’s resources, but it is.”
S. O.:
“How it feel like, chasing the wind hommie? Don’t we do it all the time? We never chase God but think that the women or the money will forever satisfy. That ain’t what we were designed for & I can tell you that with my eyes closed or blindfolded. It’s mind-blowing, our souls need God cuzzy that there I know, [brotha] yes I know.”
2. CALLED TO FOR OTHERS
1Timothy 6:17-19
Malachi 3:6-10a
3. CALLED TO OUR LIVES
Robert Murray M’Cheyne:
“I fear that there are many who are hearing me who now think that they are not Christians because they do not love to give. To give largely and liberally, not grudgingly at all requires a new heart. An old heart would rather part with its life blood than its money.”
2 Corinthians 8:9
Robert Murray M’Cheyne goes on:
“My dear Christians, some of you pray day and night to be branches of the true vine.nYou pray to be made all over in the image of Christ. If so, you must become like Him also in giving. Thou he was rich yet for our sake he became poor.”
Robert Murray M’Cheyne:
“O my friends, enjoy your money, make the most of it, give none of it away. But enjoy it quickly for I can tell you that you will be beggars throughout eternity.”
Jim Elliot:
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”
