SERMON NOTES:
Touch of the Master’s Hand:
“The people cheered but some of them cried, ‘we do not quite understand—what changed it’s worth?’ The man replied, ‘THE TOUCH OF THE MASTER’S HAND.’ And many a man with a life out of tune, and battered and torn with sin, is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd. Much like the old violin. A mess of pottage, a glass of wine, a game and he travels on. He’s going once and going twice, he’s going—and almost gone. But the MASTER comes, and the foolish crowd never can quite understand the worth of a soul, and the change that’s wrought by the TOUCH OF THE MASTER’S HAND.”
C. S. Lewis:
“Give me all of you!!!I don’t want so much of your time, so much of your talents and money, and so much of your work. I want YOU!! ALL OF YOU!!! I have not come to torment or frustrate the natural man or woman, but to KILL IT! No half measures will do. I don’t want to only prune a branch here and a branch there; rather I want the whole tree out! Hand it over to me, the whole outfit, all of your desires, all of your wants and wishes and dreams. Turn them ALL over to me, give yourself to me and I will make of you a new self— in my image. Give me yourself and in exchange I will give you Myself. My will, shall become your will. My heart, shall become your heart.”
- WE LEARN THAT MATTER
Colossians 4:7-8
2 Corinthians 11:25b-27
C.S. Lewis:
“When Christ died, he died for you individually just as much as if you had been the only person in the world.”
Ignatius:
“Since then in the name of God, I received your entire congregation in the person of Onesimus, a man of inexpressible love, and your pastor. I beseech you in Christ Jesus to love him and all who are like him.”
2. WE LEARN THAT MATTERS
Colossians 4:8
Phillips:
“That he may put a new heart into you.”
3. WE LEARN THAT MATTERS
Pandit Kharak Singh:
“But God’s justice is different. It results in gain and joy! Lost souls are found, losses are made good, happiness takes the place of misery, and all because the Son of God gave Himself a willing sacrifice to save men and restore them to God.”
The touch of the Master’s Hand:
“A man with a life out of tune and battered and torn with sin, Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd, much like an old violin. But the MASTER comes, and the foolish crowd never can quite understand. The worth of a soul, and the change that’s wrought by the TOUCH OF THE MASTER’S HAND.”
Jim Elliot:
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”
