Smooth Criminal – Week 4

August 30, 2020 / Proverbs 4:23 Ephesians 4:26-27

Smooth CriminalsAnger

Proverbs 4:23

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Ephesians 4:26

“In your anger do not sin”

Ephesians 4:26-27

“In your anger do not sin” : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

Every day you carry anger from something in your past, you will have a tendency to dump it on someone in your future.

Anger is a secondary emotion.

Anger says, “ YOU owe me.”

Hurt people hurt People.

If you never heal from what hurt you, you’ll bleed on people who didn’t cut you.

Ephesians 4:31-32

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other,  just as in Christ God forgave you.

The biggest misconceptions about forgiveness:

  1. Forgiving means I’m saying what they DID is OK.

Anger doesn’t change the heart of others; it only destroys yours.

  1. Forgiving is the same as TRUSTING.
  2. Forgiving means FORGETTING.
  3. Forgiving feels like I’m being WEAK

Forgiveness may be the greatest show of strength this world will ever see.

Ephesians 4:32

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Hurt people hurt People.

Forgiven people forgive people.

If you’re trying to earn God’s forgiveness, you’ll make everyone earn yours.

Holding on to unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

IDENTIFY a painful season of life. Go back as far as possible.

WHAT did someone take from you? Be as specific as possible.

FORGIVE Yes, it’s a choice & Yes, it is hard.
