Smooth Criminals: Jealousy

Behavior Modification vs Heart Transformation

Reasons jealousy is such a destructive smooth criminal:

  1. Jealousy seems CHILDISH so we disguise and ignore it.
  2. When ignored, jealousy sucks the JOY out of your life.

James 3:16 NLT

16 For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.

Proverbs 14:30 NLT

A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.

Who would you secretly like to see fail?

3.  Jealousy cons us into MISSING the root problem.

The root of jealousy is the idea: GOD owes me.

Romans 12:6 NLT

In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you.

1 Corinthians 12:1

Daniel 4:35

Psalm 139:13-14 NIV

13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14  Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

Every minute you spend wishing you had someone else’s life is a minute spent wasting yours.

Take Away: How do I strip jealousy out of my heart?

IDENTIFY who you are jealous of. Be honest.

CONFESS it.

CELEBRATE that person. Our loud or in a tangible way.

The antidote to cleanse your heart of jealousy is to celebrate who you’re jealous of.

Proverbs 14:30 NLT

A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body;
jealousy is like cancer in the bones.

Proverbs 16:24 NLT

24 Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
