Smooth Criminal Week 1

August 2, 2020 / Matthew 15:18-19 Jeremiah 17:9, Proverbs 4:23, Psalm 51:10

We’ve become experts at monitoring and filtering our behavior.

Matthew 15:18-19

But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

 Jeremiah 17:9

The heart is deceitful above all things
    and beyond cure.
    Who can understand it?

That slip in behavior isn’t an exception, it’s a reflection of what’s in your heart.

Every behavior stems from the HEART.

Proverbs 4:23
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

We were taught growing up to guard our BEHAVIOR
Jesus teaches us to guard our HEART.

We have to shift from behavior modification to heart transformation.

I just made an uncharacteristic mistake.

I might have something wrong with my heart.

Psalm 51:10 ESV

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
