Judges 6-7

Room for a Miracle

  1. Our responses to threats (storms): Fight, Flight, , .

  1. Flight: Gideon from his storm in the wine press. (Judges 6:11)

“Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. The fearful are caught as often as the bold.” — Helen Keller

  1. Freeze: Gideon is unwilling to move until he can (Judges 6:17-22, 36-40)

“Fear stifles our thinking and actions. It creates indecisiveness that results in stagnation. I have known talented people who procrastinate indefinitely rather than risk failure. Lost opportunities cause erosion of confidence, and the downward spiral begins.” — Charles Stanley

  1. Fight: Gideon makes his own for self-preservation. (Judges 6:27, 35)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

  1. Faith: The miracle happens when we get out of the way. (Judges 7:2-7)

Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.” Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” John 11:39-40
