Selected Psalms

Introduction

  • Augustine: (the early church father)

“The Christian should be an alleluia from head to foot.”

  • The word “Hallelujah” which is translated “praise the Lord”, occurs numerous times in the psalms. It is one of the rich words of Scripture.
  • The word is always an exclamation (shout, cry) of praise.
  • Psalms 146-150 sometimes are designated the “Hallelujah Psalms”.
  • These psalms take the opportunity to praise God for His power, His wisdom, His blessings, and the liberation of His people.

Note the following:

The hallelujah of nature – (Ps. 104)

The hallelujah of providence – (Ps. 105)
