Text: Acts 16
On a visit to First Church of Philippi, if you showed up on a testimony night, you might hear a testimony from the women’s leader, the youth leader and the chairman of deacons.
How God builds a church:
1. He brings
Acts 16:12-15
2. He brings
Acts 16:16-18
Why not let her tell people?
- Paul did not want to give the demon credibility.
- Paul saw a person hurting, not a means to exploit for his cause.
3. He brings
Acts 16:19-34
Why did Paul demand the leaders of the city come and escort him out? Was he being arrogant? I think he did not want to set a precedent in that city that it was okay to abuse missionaries. By making them eat some humble pie, they would be much more careful in the future when missionaries came to the city.
Imagine. . .On a visit to First Church of Philippi, if you came on a Sunday morning, you might see a woman at the women’s table. The women’s minister might be a woman named Lydia. And if you went down to the youth building, one of their youth leaders might be a young woman that had been rescued from the clutches of Satan and freed of a demon. And as you come into the sanctuary, perhaps handing out bulletins, you’d meet the chairman of deacons; a man who once was the Jailer at Philippi.
