The Gospel of John Part 2 (Pastor Steve)                         March 6, 2022

The Prologue

John 1:1-18 (NIV)

Who is John? John was the brother of James.

  • John’s purpose in writing his gospel is that we might believe and have eternal life.

John 1:1-3 (NIV)

John gives us a second creation account

  • Jesus comes and speaks salvation into the world. His words create healing and life and restoration.

John 1:4-5 (NIV)

Jesus brings (zoe) life into the world

2 Corinthians 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

  • Jesus came to open our eyes so we could see, and quit stumbling around in the darkness wondering why we are all bruised up from life.

John 1:6-11 (NIV)

  • John the Baptist was sent to let everyone know that Jesus was the messiah.

How many times have we written people off because they didn’t fit our expectations?

John 1:12-13 (NIV)

  • It’s not our natural birthright that gets us right with God, it’s a spiritual rebirth into the kingdom.

John 1:14 (NIV)

God in the flesh

  • He says we have seen his glory, the one and only son who came from the Father and he is full of Grace and Truth.
  • As followers of Jesus, our goal should be to balance grace and truth the way Jesus did.

John 1:15-18 (NIV)

Old testament grace vs New testament grace

  1.  Jesus explains the law so we understand the reason and the why behind it.

John 1:12 “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God…”
