Joy in suffering is all about perspective. (v. 15-18) “I will not be ashamed” (v. 18b-20) You are vital for the sake of the Saints (v. 21-26) We suffer with Jesus (v. 27-30) DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Head Have you ever been disappointed by an unrealistic expectation? Paul rejoiced in people who sincerely preached the Gospel and when people did it to cause him trouble. Can you contrast what could have been an unrealistic expectation for Paul that could have prevented him from rejoicing and what Paul’s right perspective was that allowed him to rejoice? Read Philippians 1:18b-20. Can you identify what Paul’s expectations or goals were in this section that he could boldly say “I will not be ashamed”? Heart Read Philippians 1:21-26. Imagine Jesus saying directly to you, “You are vital for the sake of the Saints”. How does that make you feel? Is that easy or hard for you to believe? Hands Read Philippians 1:27-30. Can you think of someone in your life you would suffer for? Can you explain why? What might be some new thoughts about suffering with and for Christ?
