Understanding the Anointing
2 Corinthians 5: 17-21
Introduction
Defining the Anointing: The anointing is the operation of the Holy Spirit within man.
The Function of the Anointing: The anointing is so precious because grace flows from the Head to the Body by means of the anointing. The function of the anointing is to maintain the link between the Head and the Body, as well as the link between all the members. The relationship between the Holy Spirit, Christ, and the church can be compared to the nerves in the human body. The nerves direct and coordinate all the members of the body. The head communicates and directs all the members through the nerves, and through the nerves all the members are related one to another as well. All the members in the body move according to the direction of the nerves. Submitting to the nerves is submitting to the head. Likewise, in the spiritual Body the Holy Spirit carries the thoughts of the Head to all the members. As members of the Body of Christ, we have to yield to the authority of the Holy Spirit. When we yield to the authority of the Holy Spirit, we are yielding to the Head. When we grieve the Spirit, we frustrate our relationship with the Head. We hold the Head by simply yielding to the Spirit.
The Anointing of God needs the faith of God to flow.
No Faith no Flow
Faith does not work in Unrighteousness
All unrighteousness is sin
Ecclesiastes 8:4
There is a miracle-working ability. The king sees himself as righteous
A King Decrees a thing Job 22:28

- When the Anointing shows up Authority Takes Over
- Definition of Authority: Greek word is exousia, which means “delegated influence, authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength”
- Luke 10:19 Listen carefully: I have given you authority [that you now possess] to tread on [a]serpents and scorpions, and [the ability to exercise authority] over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will [in any way] harm you.
- “Satan will fight us more on this subject than anything else. Learn the truth about authority and dominate in the earth.” —
- When we understand faith, the impossible becomes possible. Why? Faith has dominion over the laws of time, space, and matter.
- Hebrews 11:1 Now Faith is the substance of things hope for and the evidence of things not seen.
- The value of our authority rests on the power that is behind that authority.
- Police who stop traffic are backed by the city government they serve.
- As a Believer, our authority is backed by God Himself and Heaven’s Government…
- “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10)
- Authority is delegated Power
- Luke 10:19 — “Behold, I give unto you power… and over all the power of the enemy”
- “Power” is used twice – But they are TWO different words
- Interpreted … “I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy.”
- He’s not talking about snakes –spiders … Jesus is talking about the power of … demons, evil spirits, etc. and how to face the enemy fearlessly.
- You have authority over them, every devil and every disease and disaster satan brings.
- God Himself is the power behind our authority
- I Samuel 17:45-46
- Acts 16:25-26
- 7:12-13
- Satan had the right to rule over us until we became new creatures — came into the body of Christ…
- Satan has no right to dominate or rule us — yet the average Christian has had more faith in satan’s authority and power than God’s, thinking we will have spiritual authority sometime in the future…as the song goes, “When we all get to heaven.”
- Mark 4:35-41 Jesus took authority over the storm…spoke to the Wind (unseen) first, taking authority over the spirit behind the wind that was driving this deadly storm…
