For Your Glory Pt.3: It Will Get Better From Here
July 22, 2020 / Haggai 2:1-9For Your Glory
Part 3: IT GETS BETTER FROM HERE
Haggai 2:1-9 NKJV
1 In the seventh month, on the twenty-first of the month, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying: 2 “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying: 3 ‘Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? In comparison with it, is this not in your eyes as nothing? 4 Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says the Lord; ‘and be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land,’ says the Lord, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ says the Lord of hosts. 5 ‘According to the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, so My Spirit remains among you; do not fear!’ 6 “For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; 7 and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts. 8 ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts. 9 ‘The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.”
I. INTRODUCTION
II. WHEN YOU ARE DOWN TO NOTHING, GOD IS UP TO SOMETHING
A. If You Survived That, God Is Going to Let You See This vs. 1-3
B. You Have to Know Your History to Appreciate Your Destiny
C. Characteristics of People Who Remember:
- – the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood and assessed.
- the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual
- –dedication of yourself to something, like a person or cause.
III. DIVINE INTERVENTION DOES NOT EXEMPT YOU FROM HUMAN RESPONSIBILITY
A. You’ve Got to Work and Not Whine vs. 4
James 2:26 NKJV
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Ecclesiastes 2:10-11 10Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, For my heart rejoiced in all my labor; And this was my reward from all my labor. 11Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 3:9-13 9What profit has the worker from that in which he labors? 10I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied. 11He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. 12I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, 13and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God.
B. Find Contentment in what you are doing, not Fear
1 Timothy 6:6-8 6Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
Hebrews 13:5-6 5Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
C. Find Comfort in His Covenant vs. 5
Psalm 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
IV. GOD USES DISRUPTION TO MANIFEST DESTINY
A. He Shakes Us to Situate Us vs. 6
Philippians 4:11-13 11Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
B. The Glory Only Occupies What’s Been Purified vs. 7
Psalm 24:3-7 NKJV
3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him,
Who seek Your face. Selah
7 Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
III. WHAT IS NEEDED FOR A RICH & MANIFESTED DESTINY?
1. A Sense of Peace and Purpose
Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.
2 Timothy 1:9 He who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began
Isaiah 55:12 For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
V. HE WILL GIVE YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO GET WHERE YOU NEED TO BE
A. He’s the Independent Owner and The Distributer vs.8-9
- He Never Runs Out
- He Always Takes Care of His Children
- He Will Make Stuff Find You
B. Your Later Will Be Better
C. LIVING BY GOD’S DESIGN
1. Know That We Are Insatiable by Design
Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.
Isaiah 40:28-31 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, 31 But those who b wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
