Isaiah 9:6
A Perfect Gift Pt.2: Our Wonderful Counselor
December 14, 2022 / Isaiah 9:6Our Wonderful Counselor
Isaiah 9:6
This prophecy of the coming Christ that was given hundreds of years before his birth tells us that the child that was to be born would have some very amazing names. Of course the One that Isaiah is speaking of is Jesus. According to Isaiah He would be called:
Wonderful Counselor- a person trained to give guidance on personal, social, or psychological problems:
synonyms: adviser, consultant, guide, mentor, expert, specialist
wonderful: inspiring delight, pleasure, or admiration; extremely good; marvelous:
synonyms: marvelous, magnificent, superb, glorious, sublime, lovely,
The Mighty God
The Everlasting Father
The Prince of Peace
Today we will look at Christ as our Wonderful Counselor.
I do believe that Jesus is wonderful. He is Lord of lords and King of kings. He is the creator of the universe. His name is above every name – and at His name, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess – that Jesus Christ is Lord. I know that He is wonderful – but for today I want to examine Jesus as our Wonderful Counselor. In the worst of times God’s People have a nevertheless to comfort themselves with, something to allay and balance their troubles
Unto to us a child has been born, a son has been given to give us:
- a glorious light
- a glorious increase
- a glorious liberty and enlargement
- Under this glory God shall kindle a fire, that activates this Counsellor
Later in the book of Isaiah we find that the author speaks of Jesus again when he says:
Isaiah 11:2 (NKJV) “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”
What makes Him a Wonderful Counselor?
- He Understands Our Struggle
- Hebrews 4:15-16 (HCSB) For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time.”
- Isaiah 40:28-31 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall,31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
- He Is Always On
- Stay Perceptive of God’s Ability
- Psalm 121:2-4 NKJV 2 My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.3 He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. - He Sustains Us In Our Struggles
- You Must Recognize It
- You Must Release It
- You Must Receive It
- Jesus was fully human like you and I. He knows how mean people can be. He knows how rough life can get. He understands your struggles – come to Him – He understands your struggles.
- PROBLEM OF GOING IT ALONE
- No Matter How Amazing You Are, You Will Come To End Of Yourself
- Self-Reliance Results In Fainting And Falling
- He Cares For Us
- 1 Peter 5:7 Cast your care upon Him for He cares for us
- He cares about your character. He cares about your spiritual growth and emotional welfare. He cares about the pain you suffer. He considers you of value and of worth.
- SO Much that He Gave John 3:16
- He cares so much that He will help you with your problems. He will help you deal with them. That’s why He is called a Wonderful Counselor. He’s not going to leave us to fend for ourselves. You have probably heard it said, “God helps those who help themselves.” The truth of the matter is when you have reached the bottom – “God helps those who can’t help themselves.” When you see no way out – God steps in – if you call on Him.
- Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest.”
- 1 Peter 5:7 Cast your care upon Him for He cares for us
- He Commits Himself to Us
- John 10:27 27My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.28I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.29My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all[c] ; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.30I and the Father are one.”
- This verse tells me that Jesus speaks to us. If we have a personal relationship with Jesus – He is committed to us and He talks to us.
