Acts 2:1 (NIV) When the day of Pentecost came…

THE JEWISH HOLIDAYS FULFILLED

Passover: .

– The Passover lamb was sacrificed at 9 a.m.

– The lamb was put in the oven at 3 p.m.

– The lamb’s sacrifice covered their sins.

– Jesus, the lamb of God was sacrificed at 9 a.m.

– Jesus, the lamb of God was put in the tomb at 3 p.m.

– Jesus’ sacrifice removed our sins.

Matthew 5:17 (NIV) Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

1 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV) For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

1 John 2:2 (NCV) He died in our place to take away our sins, and not only our sins but the sins of all people.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

Pentecost: to .

Acts 2:1 (NIV) When the day of Pentecost came…

– The Holy Spirit descended with loud sound and fire.

– God wrote His law on our hearts.

– 3000 people got saved.

Acts 1:3-5 (NIV) After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 1:8 (NIV) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

THE MEANING OF PENTECOST

1. The Holy Spirit empowers me to live .

Romans 8:9 (NIV) You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you.

Jeremiah 31:33 (NIV) “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts.

John 16:13–14 (NCV) But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will lead you into all truth. He will not speak his own words, but he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is to come. The Spirit of truth will bring glory to me, because he will take what I have to say and tell it to you.

Isaiah 30:21 (NIV) Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

2. The Holy Spirit empowers me to live .

John 14:12 (NLT) “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.

Acts 10:38 (NLT) And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

1 Corinthians 2:4-5 (NIV) My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.

3. The Holy Spirit empowers me to live on .

1 Thessalonians 1:5 (NIV) Our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction.
