The cross is the very Jesus came and He was constantly AWARE of that. Jesus tells them that victory will come and God’s Kingdom will progress but these will come in ways that are totally to what they are thinking. We see here that Satan will make every attempt to Jesus from doing the Father’s will and going to the cross and defeating Satan, even using Jesus’ own disciples. Not only did Jesus live with a cross CONSCIOUSNESS, but we see here that Jesus’ disciples, even you and me today, with that same cross CONSCIOUSNESS. The truth seen here is that just like Jesus, every one of Jesus’ disciples deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Jesus even to their own cross. This is where following Jesus leads – – could be physical death for some due their faith, but to all it is a death to one’s own ways and plans for their own life. The way that we truly find life is by it for Jesus’ sake. There is a sense of behind Jesus’ words here. APPLICATION Does this cross consciousness we have spoken of today guide everything you do? Does it interpret everything you go thru? Everything you experience? Make you AWARE of what you otherwise might not be aware of? Teach you what you otherwise would miss? A cross CONSCIOUSNESS must filter and everything when nothing seems to make sense, orient us when our circumstances are disorienting. What is your life accomplishing for the gospel? In what ways is your life furthering the gospel? What unselfishness pervades your life? What ways show you dying to self? In what ways are you taking up your cross? In what ways are you losing your life only to find it in Him? Are you eagerly anticipating the return of the KING? What about your life only makes sense in the resurrection? In what ways might you and your lack of faith me discouraging others from dying to self? Are you more like Peter, your own agenda and ways and thoughts impacting others in a negative way from sacrificing? Or do you encourage others to die to self? Are you modeling it for others, your kids? What are you passing on to them? Following Jesus will cost us and yet give us .
