TITLE: The Shield of Faith
TEXT: Ephesians 6:16; Hebrews 11:1-7

 In our series, so far we have talked about the everyday gear that God gives you to handle life.  This weekend, we see that the shield of faith is the one piece of gear that we are meant to pick up during life’s darkest moments. If you are walking through difficult, life-altering moments, this sermon is meant for you.

SERMON NOTES

Jesus repeatedly says to his followers – why so little faith? Don’t forget to pack your faith when heading into crisis.

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Eph 6:16

1. WHAT IS THE SHIELD
   1. The shield was large and about the size of a small door (2ft by 5ft)
   2. Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1
   3. Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
      

2. WHEN DO WE USE THE SHIELD?
   1. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes… Ephesians 6:13
      

3. HOW DO WE USE THE SHIELD?
   1. We grab something out of the unseen realm to use in the visible realm
   2. To pick up the shield means to practice an active, visible faith.
      1. What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? James 2:14
      2. Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; Job 13:15
      3. “I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.” Job 19:25
   3. This is a faith rooted in truth
      1. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow
         strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:7
         

With faith, your victory is on the way!
