We are called to Invite everyone, everywhere, into a transforming relationship with Jesus every day.

Walk This Way: Walk In The Spirit

February 9, 2025   /   NewLife Church MI

Walking in the power of the Holy Spirit is for fulfilling God’s plan and purposes in our lives.

John 8:31-36 – New Living Translation
31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

33 “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?”

34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

The good news is that God has given us His Spirit, not just to be with us, but to empower us every single day.

Galatians 5:16
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

How do we get to this point?

Galatians 5 – New International Version
Freedom in Christ
5 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. 4 You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. 5 For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. 9 “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” 10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty. 11 Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. 12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!

Life by the Spirit
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh[a]; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”[b] 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

We all want to experience God’s presence and power in our lives, but too often, we rely on our own instead of depending on the Holy Spirit.

We were never meant to walk this journey .

If Jesus needed the Spirit, how much more do we?

Jesus Was Led by the Spirit

 Luke 4:1-2
“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.”

The Holy Spirit knows exactly we need to be.

 Jesus Was by the Spirit

Luke 4:14
“Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.”

The Holy Spirit knows exactly we need.

Jesus Was by the Spirit to Do Miracles

Luke 4:18-19
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
for he has anointed me to bring
Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim
that captives will be released,
    that the blind will see,
that the oppressed will be set free,
and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.

That same anointing is available to believer.

Mark 16:14-20 -New International Version
14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.

15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

John 14:12
“Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things.”

When we walk in the Spirit, we should to see God move supernaturally in and through us.

The Holy Spirit to work in and through us.

What about you?

  • Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to lead you?

  • Are you relying on His power instead of your own strength?

  • Do you believe He wants to work through you to bring healing, freedom, and transformation?

Simple Prayer:
“Holy Spirit, I invite You to take control. Lead me, fill me, and use me for Your glory.”

When we walk in the Spirit, we don’t just about God’s power; we it.

Goal:
Make the Natural!
