In these passages Paul tells us to:
  • Be Truthful, Don’t Lie

“Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” Ephesians 4:25

“The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” Proverbs 12:22

“An honest witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies.” Proverbs 14:5

“He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44

  • In Anger, Don’t Sin

“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” Ephesians 4:26-27

“Don’t be quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger abides in the heart of fools.” Ecclesiastes 7:9

“Anger is a legitimate emotion
 that is often expressed illegitimately.”

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,  because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” James 1:19-20

“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.  There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.” I Corinthians 12:4-6

  • Be Generous, Don’t Steal

“Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.” Ephesians 4:28

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

  • Speak Grace, Not Garbage

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:29-30

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21

“The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Proverbs 12:18

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.  The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.” Proverbs 15:1-2

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” Luke 6: 45

“Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.” James 1:26
