Ghosts of Christmas Past

What may have been true in a moment, doesn’t mean it has to true.

Knowing who we are in Christ:

1. What may have been true about me doesn’t have to me.

And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins (Hebrews 8:12)

3 At this, Abram fell face down on the ground. Then God said to him, 4 “This is my covenant with you: I will make you the father of a multitude of nations! 5 What’s more, I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham, for you will be the father of many nations. (Genesis 17:3-5)

2. Only the creator has to His creation.

18 Rachel was about to die, but with her last breath she named the baby Ben-oni (which means “son of my sorrow”). The baby’s father, however, called him Benjamin (which means “son of my right hand”). (Genesis 35:18)

3. You will live up to or you will live down to, whatever you to be true about who you are.

11 Then the angel of the Lord came and sat beneath the great tree at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash of the clan of Abiezer. Gideon son of Joash was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites. 12 The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!” (Judges 6:11-12)

15 “But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!” (Judges 6:15)

8 Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. 9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 10 That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:8-10)

GOD’S LABELS

As Pastor Luke teaches us today, we often have wrong labels about ourselves. We need to embrace the truth of who we are to God. We have put together a list of what God says about you and where it’s found in the bible. For encouragement this coming week, go to the page.

BLUE CHRISTMAS

Christmas isn’t always easy. Grief, loss, finances, past traumas, separations, and other hardships can contribute to sadness and loneliness during the holidays. Bridgeway Church, 1401 E Hoffer St, will be hosting an intimate and gentle community Christmas service where you can be “reminded of the robust hope of the truth that God is with us” on December 21 at 7 p.m. You can find more details at bluechristmas.info.
