Do You Love Me

John 21:15-19

15 So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simonson of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”

Note that Jesus called Peter by his old name “Simon” and not “Peter” – rock.

It was Jesus that changed Peters name from Simon to “Rock”, Matt. 16:16-18

Perhaps he is saying “Simon”,  (which means “hearing”)  “can you hear me now”?  Because what I have to say is very, very important.

What I want to know is  “Do you love me more than these”?

He (Peter)  said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”

This same question and response was given a second time, and Jesus still accepted Peter and his answer.   Even with a weak answer, Peter was still on the team.

17 He said to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?”

This time, Jesus asked; Do you have “affection” for me?

As you walk with Jesus, and time passes by, your love for Him will surely grow.  But so will satan’s efforts to destroy your faith increase.  Therefore, your love for Jesus must grow all the more in order to always hold you strong and steady in the faith!

Ways to stay in love with Jesus:

  1. Communicate with Him often.
  2. Keep His Picture near you.
  3. Be known by His name
  4.  Enjoy Being Together
  5. When you are (seem to be) apart, TRUST GOD IN THE SILENT TIMES.
