Before a person can give his life for the gospel, he must first live his life for the gospel. We are introduced in Acts 6 to a man named Stephen who did just that. Let’s examine his amazing testimony. I. Stephen the (6:9-7:1) It is possible to be a man of courage, faith, and , while at the same time be a people person. Stephen was becoming a person of and was making a difference and that was creating real with the religious leaders. Notice verse 10. I really like this verse – they were not able to resist the and the that Stephen had when he spoke. Nobody could match him. People who are out to destroy a ministry do a lot of stuff. They have secret meetings, secret petitions, and secret discussions. They form secret committees. They do not have the to do things truthfully and forthrightly, they work behind the scenes. Believer, if Stephen can in this situation, then you and I can glow with the of God through whatever we might face. II. Stephen the (7:2-53) In response, Stephen launches into years of Jewish history. You are not truly spiritual if your Bible is collecting from Sunday to Sunday! Read it. Stephen was just overwhelmed with the of the Holy Spirit and he lets them have it with both barrels! Salvation is not found in the , the prophets, or a place. It is found in a named Jesus Christ. Stephen the (7:54-60) Stephen had grace to the . tThe word martyr is the Greek word “martus” in the Bible. Only four times is that word related to a believer dying for his faith. In every other usage, it refers to people living for their faith. In fact, 161 times in the New Testament, “martus” is translated “.” Stephen was called to for his faith.
