All I Want for Christmas
My Family – Luke 15:11-32
Sunday, December 14, 2025
Pastor Mike Bailey
Introduction
This Christmas season, we’re taking a fresh look at the attitudes that shape our holiday season, examining our hearts as we focus on our finances, our family, our faith, and our future. Through the wisdom of the Teacher, the tender redemption of the Prodigal Son, the wonder-filled obedience of the Shepherds, and the steady, peace-filled encouragement of the Apostle Paul, we’ll discover how the story of Jesus transforms each of these areas in surprising and hope-filled ways. Are we seeing Christmas not just as a season, but as an invitation: to hold our finances with wisdom, to love our families with grace, to strengthen our faith with joy, and to look toward our future with peace. Let’s experience the kind of Christmas our hearts long for.

My Family
Luke 15:11-32
1. My family will be … and so will I.
13 If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. 15 For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. 16 For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. James 3:13-16
Notes:
2. My family will cause … and so will I.
“Even those closest to you—your parents, brothers, relatives, and friends—will betray you. They will even kill some of you.” Luke 21:16
For the son despises his father. The daughter defies her mother. The daughter-in-law defies her mother-in-law. Your enemies are right in your own household! Micah 7:6
Notes:
3. My family wasn’t always … but I can be.
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close. Psalm 27:10
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23
Notes:
4. My family can have a real … and so can I.
My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 (ESV)
Notes:
Challenge:
How do I need to shift so that my family dynamics can change?
It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Isaiah 59:2a
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
Growth Challenge:
This Christmas season, choose to honor God by honoring your family.
Read Luke 2:1-52 in preparation for next week’s message.
