Go public. We are in a series of messages about going public with our faith in Jesus Christ.

 

The Scripture we are basing this series on says it quite clearly; Romans 1:  For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

 

Today I want to talk about going public with our commitment; Our commitment to be a follower of Jesus and not just an admirer.

 

Luke 9:23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.

 

Read between the lines. Jesus is calling for people to come after him, to follow him. It almost seems like we’re making all the sacrifices. But what Jesus is saying is that when we get him, we get something great, we get the abundant life, we get Jesus.

 

So why deny yourself anything? Because of something better in Jesus.

Why take up a cross? Because of something better in Jesus.

Why would we even consider losing our life and not doing whatever we feel? Because there’s something infinitely better in Jesus.

 

Luke 9:57 As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59 To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

 

Conclusion: many people admire Jesus, but few devoted themselves to him.

Jesus had many fans, few followers.

 

Jesus was constantly forcing people to decide to move from admirer to follower. The thing about admirers is they always hold something back.

 

It seems that what Jesus is asking of us is too much. And then Jesus says this;

 

Matthew 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

 

What is the narrow way? It’s Jesus. Love Jesus. Surrender to Jesus. Trust Jesus. Abide in Jesus. Devote yourself to Jesus without reservation and hold nothing back. It’s the way to life.

 

What is the broad way? It’s the way of the crowd. The path of least resistance. Drifting along. It is admiring Jesus, but you reserve for yourself the right to do whatever you want to do.

 

But notice there’s a narrow gate and a wide gate. There is no third gate.

Sounds ridiculous but that’s how many people live..

Jesus is looking for followers.

He’s looking for disciples.

He’s looking for an extraordinarily high commitment.

He’s not looking for people who call themselves Christians.

• He’s looking for people who will go where he goes.
• Who will do what he does
• who will live as he lives
• who will say the things that he says
• who will treat others as he treats others
• who will love as he loves
• who will give grace as he gives grace
• who will do church like he does church
• who will help like he helps
• who will care like he cares
• who will rescue like he rescues
• who will pray like he prays
• who will believe what he believes
• who will dare like he dared

 

Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…

 

Do it with all your might.

Love God with all your might.

Serve Jesus with all your might.

Lead those children with all your might.

Build those youth with all your might.

Give with all your might.

Sing with all your might.

Be a church member with all your might.

 

Nothing halfway.

Don’t do enough to get by.

Nothing mediocre.

There going through the motions.

But doing it with all of our might.

Going over and above.

Put your all into it.

Make it count.

 

Don’t let rain, snow, or hell and demons keeping you from doing that thing.

Follow him.

If you have to put your head on a stone as a pillow, then do that.

If you have to say goodbye to your family to follow God on a mission, then do that.

Let’s see what GOD can do!

Hazlo público. Estamos en una serie de mensajes acerca de hacer pública nuestra fe en Jesucristo.

 

Las Escrituras en las que basamos esta serie lo dicen muy claramente; Romanos 1: Porque no me avergüenzo del evangelio, porque es poder de Dios para salvación a todo aquel que cree, al judío primeramente y también al griego.

 

Hoy quiero hablar de hacer público nuestro compromiso; Nuestro compromiso de ser un seguidor de Jesús y no solo un admirador.

 

Lucas 9:23 Y dijo a todos: Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, y tome su cruz cada día, y sígame. 24 Porque el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; pero el que pierda su vida por causa de mí, la salvará.

 

Leer entre líneas. Jesús está llamando a la gente a venir detrás de él, a seguirlo. Casi parece que estamos haciendo todos los sacrificios. Pero lo que Jesús está diciendo es que cuando lo obtenemos a él, obtenemos algo grande, obtenemos la vida abundante, obtenemos a Jesús.

 

Entonces, ¿por qué negarse a sí mismo algo? Por algo mejor en Jesús.

¿Por qué tomar una cruz? Por algo mejor en Jesús.

¿Por qué consideraríamos perder la vida y no hacer lo que sentimos? Porque hay algo infinitamente mejor en Jesús.

 

Lucas 9:57 Y yendo ellos por el camino, alguien le dijo: Te seguiré adondequiera que vayas. 58 Y Jesús le dijo: Las zorras tienen madrigueras, y las aves del cielo nidos, pero el Hijo del Hombre no tiene dónde reclinar la cabeza. 59 A otro le dijo: Sígueme. Pero él dijo: “Señor, déjame ir primero a enterrar a mi padre”. 60 Jesús le dijo: «Deja que los muertos entierren a sus muertos. En cuanto a vosotros, id y proclamad el reino de Dios”. 61 Otro dijo: —Te seguiré, Señor, pero déjame despedirme primero de los que están en mi casa. 62 Jesús le dijo: —El que pone la mano en el arado y mira hacia atrás, no es apto para el reino de Dios.

 

Conclusión: muchas personas admiran a Jesús, pero pocas se dedican a él.

Jesús tenía muchos admiradores, pocos seguidores.

 

Jesús estaba constantemente obligando a las personas a decidir pasar de admirador a seguidor. Lo que pasa con los admiradores es que siempre se guardan algo.

 

Parece que lo que Jesús nos pide es demasiado. Y entonces Jesús dice esto;

 

Mateo 7:13 “Entrad por la puerta estrecha. Porque ancha es la puerta y fácil el camino que lleva a la perdición, y muchos son los que entran por ella. 14 Porque estrecha es la puerta y angosto el camino que lleva a la vida, y pocos son los que la hallan.

 

¿Qué es el camino angosto? Es Jesús. Ama a Jesús. Ríndete a Jesús. Confía en Jesús. Permaneced en Jesús. Dedícate a Jesús sin reservas y no te guardes nada. Es el camino a la vida.

 

¿Cuál es el camino ancho? Es el camino de la multitud. El camino de menor resistencia. A la deriva. Es admirar a Jesús, pero te reservas el derecho de hacer lo que quieras.

 

Pero fíjense que hay una puerta estrecha y otra ancha. No hay una tercera puerta.

Suena ridículo, pero así es como vive mucha gente.

 

Lucas 9:23 Y dijo a todos: Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, y tome su cruz cada día, y sígame. 24 Porque el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; pero el que pierda su vida por causa de mí, la salvará.

 

Jesús está buscando seguidores.

Está buscando discípulos.

Busca un compromiso extraordinariamente alto.

Él no está buscando personas que se llamen a sí mismas cristianas.

• Está buscando gente que vaya a donde él vaya.
• ¿Quién hará lo que él hace?
• que vivirá como él vive
• que dirá las cosas que él dice
• que tratará a los demás como trata a los demás
• que amará como ama
• que dará gracia como Él da gracia
• que hará la iglesia como él hace la iglesia
• que ayudará como él ayuda
• a quién le importará como a él le importa
• que rescatará como él rescata
• que rezará como reza
• que creerá lo que él cree
• que se atreverá como él se atrevió

 

Eclesiastés 9:10 Todo lo que te viniere a la mano para hacer, hazlo con todas tus fuerzas…

 

Hazlo con todas tus fuerzas.

Ama a Dios con todas tus fuerzas.

Sirve a Jesús con todas tus fuerzas.

Dirige a esos niños con todas tus fuerzas.

Edifica a esos jóvenes con todas tus fuerzas.

Da con todas tus fuerzas.

Canta con todas tus fuerzas.

Sé miembro de la iglesia con todas tus fuerzas.

 

Nada a medias.

No hagas lo suficiente para sobrevivir.

Nada mediocre.

Allí pasando por los movimientos.

Pero haciéndolo con todas nuestras fuerzas.

Ir más allá.

Pon todo de ti en ello.

Haz que cuente.

 

No dejes que la lluvia, la nieve, el infierno y los demonios te impidan hacer eso.

Síguelo.

Si tienes que poner tu cabeza en una piedra como almohada, hazlo.

Si tienes que despedirte de tu familia para seguir a Dios en una misión, entonces hazlo.

 

¡Veamos lo que DIOS puede hacer!
