- Philippians 4:6-7
1. Reflecting on Jesus’ statement in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you,” how does this peace differ from what the world offers, especially in the context of finding peace with God? How did Jesus tear down the dividing wall of hostility between us and God?
2. In Ephesians 2:14-15, Paul describes Jesus as our peace who breaks down barriers. How does this imagery reshape our understanding of reconciliation and unity? What are some common barriers to relationships today, and should these things divide us?
3. Reflecting on John 15:5, why is it impossible to have peace with God or others without Jesus? Can you provide examples from your own experiences when you attempted to find peace without Jesus and it proved unsuccessful?
4. In what practical ways can we foster peace in our relationships with others, considering Jesus’ example of reconciling Jews and Gentiles?
5. How does the concept of being a peacemaker extend beyond simply avoiding conflict to actively promoting reconciliation and peace in our relationships?
6. The sermon mentioned sharing the gospel, and the pastor asked three questions that we should ask ourselves every week: Have I invited anyone to church this week? Have I shared a God story with someone this week? Have I shared the gospel with someone this week? Why is it important to consistently ask ourselves these questions? How does this relate to our mission of peace?
7. How does examining our own lives and motives contribute to the process of relying on the promises of God for inner peace that surpasses understanding?
8. Considering the challenges of making every effort to live at peace, how can we rely on the promises of God for inner peace that surpasses understanding?
