Extraordinary Relationships: Forgiveness

Matthew 6:9-15

April 28, 2024

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed

be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is

in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as

we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For if you

forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you

do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.’”

Matthew 6:9-15 (NIV)

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” Mark 11:24-25 (NIV)

“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37 (NLT)

“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. So watch yourselves. If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.’ The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith!’”

Luke 17:1-5 (NIV)

  1. Remember How Jesus Has Forgiven You

“Jesus said, ‘Forgive them, Father! They don’t know what they are doing.’ They divided his clothes among themselves by throwing dice.”

Luke 23:34 (GNT)

“You must put away all bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and slanderous talk—indeed all malice. Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.”

Ephesians 4:31-32 (NET)

  1. Let Go And Let God

“Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath. Laugh with your happy friends when they’re happy; share tears when they’re down. Get along with each other; don’t be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great somebody. Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone. If you’ve got it in you, get along with everybody. Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do. ‘I’ll do the judging,’ says God. ‘I’ll take care of it.’” Romans 12:14-19 (MSG)

  1. Keep On Forgiving

“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12 (KJV)

“Then Peter came to him and asked, ‘Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?’ ‘No, not seven times,’ Jesus replied, ‘but seventy times seven!’” Matthew 18:21-22 (NLT)

“Forgiveness can’t be about keeping score, it’s all about losing count.”  Jentezen Franklin

“Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.” Hebrews 12:15 (NLT)

“The godless are full of resentment.” Job 36:13 (NLT)

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”

Matthew 5:7 (NIV)
