Psalm 23 Week 3

July 6, 2022   /   WFA Church

MAIN IDEA: When our souls need rescuing, God leans in immediately to restore us and to lead us into righteousness.

Head Change: To know that God truly is the Restorer who revives and reinvigorates our souls.

Heart Change: To feel relieved that it’s not up to us to lead our lives because the Shepherd leads us.

Life Change: To surrender to the guidance and control of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  1. We learned today that God immediately responds to us when we are in danger. Describe an experience during which you had to respond immediately to a danger signal.

  2. Read Luke 15:20. Why is it significant that we see the prodigal son’s father running towards him?
  3. When we need restoration, do we run towards God, or does He run towards us?

  4. Why can we trust God to get us to where we need to go in life?
  5. Psalm 23:3 tells us the Good Shepherd leads us in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake. The fact that He leads us frees us from the idea that unless we’re leading ourselves, we’ll never get to where we’re supposed to be. Do you feel pressure to get life right all the time? Do you ever feel you don’t have what it takes to make a success of your life? How does the truth of Psalm 23:3 alleviate all this angst?
  6. Another way of thinking about ‘paths of righteousness’ is ‘the right paths’. Can you think of any wrong paths you’ve chosen to go down? Did the wrong path seem like a fun idea at the time? Have you experienced how God leading you down right paths has mirrored the overall call of God in your life?
  7. God leads us down right paths for His Name’s sake. In other words, His Name – His reputation – is at stake. How does this truth help you to trust God’s guidance and surrender to His leadership and control over your life?
  8. Perhaps you’ve gone through a time of transition during which your emotions were particularly volatile. In what ways did surrendering to the Lordship and leadership of Jesus bring goodness, blessing, freedom, and favor?
  9. Read Psalm 138:8 and Psalm 143:8. How do David’s words in these two verses reflect the themes of trust in, and surrender to the loving Shepherd he describes in Psalm 23?
  10. Share a time when you surrendered to God leading your path. How did it change your life?
