Psalm 23 Week 2

June 29, 2022   /   WFA Church

MAIN IDEA: God loves us so much that He makes us rest in His inexhaustible presence.

Head Change: To know that rest is not passive; it’s God’s active work to replenish us so He can use us most effectively.

Heart Change: To celebrate that we have unlimited access to God’s presence.

Life Change: To seek rest, intentionally, as part of God’s best purposes for us.

  1. In week 1, we learned about the Good Shepherd’s love and care for us. Today, we moved to Psalm 23:2. What’s the one thing the Shepherd makes us do? Why is that important?
  2. Oftentimes, we feel like rest means we are neglecting our responsibilities. Brad encouraged us that is not the case. Share a time when you needed to rest. How did that rest impact your life?
  3. It is easy for us to think of others when we are resting – How can I help this person? I wonder what happened to that prayer request for this family? However, the verse says “He makes me lie down.” The gift of rest is meant for you. How can we ensure our time of rest is used to bring us to a place of strength and encouragement?

  4. Read Psalm 4:8. How does this verse echo Psalm 23:2?
  5. In a world full of achievement and activity, it can be easy to get caught up in operating in your calling or working at your job. Brad states “God’s good work in our lives is also to lead us to green pastures”. What do green pastures represent?
  6. The Shepherd makes us lie down in green pastures. Lying down suggests time is passing. In other words, if we’re going to draw life and nourishment from His presence, we’ll need to give it time. In which areas of your life are you typically in a hurry? Where do you need to practice patience while you trust God’s timing?
  7. Why is it significant that He leads us by still waters and not to still waters?
  8. Read Revelation 22:17. How does this verse confirm for us that God’s power and presence will never run out on us?
  9. Sometimes when we are in a season of rest, we can feel like God’s work in us has been put on hold. Brad stated “rest is not inactivity. Rest is actually spirit directed activity.” How can rest be used to bring you to a place where the Holy Spirit can use you to help others?

  10. Read Luke 6:38. When was the last time you slowed down long enough to receive the deeply refreshing blessing of God?
