Second Mile Christians
November 11, 2020 / Matthew 5:1-2
Now when Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to Him, and He began to teach them.” (Matthew 5:1-2a NIV)
“If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.” (Matthew 5:41 NLT)
THREE EXAMPLES OF SECOND MILE PEOPLE:
“Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.” (Matt. 8:5-10 NLT)
But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have You come into my home. Just say the word from where You are, and my servant will be healed.
I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.”
When Jesus heard this, He was amazed. Turning to those who were following Him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!”
Second-mile FAITH = Your word is good. (Mark 7:27-29 NIV)
“‘First let the children eat all they want,’ he told her, ‘for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.’”
“‘Lord,’ she replied, ‘even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.’ Then He told her, ‘For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.’”
Second-mile HUMILITY = scraps are just fine. Luke 21:1-4 (NIV)
“As Jesus looked up, He saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury.
He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. ‘Truly I tell you,’ He said, ‘this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.’”
Second-mile GIVING = trusting the Lord with what He provides.
Matthew 5:48 (The Voice) “But you are called to something higher: ‘Be perfect, as your Father in heaven is perfect.’”
Second-mile people go the second mile because JESUS is KING of their lives.
