Contentment

December 9, 2020   /   New Hope Oahu

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.” (1 Tim. 6:6-8 NIV)

CAUSES OF DISCONTENTMENT:

1 Tim. 6:9-10 (NLT):

“But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.”

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

When we forget .

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Eph. 2:10 NLT)

“Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child.” (Gal. 4:7 NLT)

  • Because we forget .
“The LORD is my Shepherd, I have all that I need.” (Ps. 23:1 NIV)

When we forget .
Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have….” (Phil 4:11 NLT)

“…For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Phil. 4:13 NLT)

“Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through Your Word.” (Psalm 119:37 NLT)

“Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die:

Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.

Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’

Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.” (Prov. 30:7-9 NIV)
