Time to Dream Lesson 1 – The Door To A New You

Lesson 1 – “THE DOOR TO A NEW YOU”

“When I open a door, no one can close it. And when I close a door, no one can open it.” Revelation 3:7 (CEV)

Throughout the Bible, God uses doors as metaphors for important decisions in your life. A door can represent the beginning or the end of something. A door can be an entrance or an exit. A door can say “welcome” or a door can say “keep out”. It can represent acceptance or rejection. Sometimes God opens doors in your life, and sometime God shuts doors… doors to a career doors to relationships, doors to opportunities. Sometimes God uses doors to protect you, and sometimes he uses doors to release you.

Doors can also have spiritual implications in your life. In the Bible, a door can represent the entrance door to salvation, or the holy door of worship, or the welcoming door of fellowship, or the passage door of discipleship, or the service door of ministry, or the outside door to your mission in the world.

“For from the very beginning God decided that those who came to him—and all along he knew who would—should become like his Son, so that his Son would be the First, with many brothers.” Romans 8:29 (TLB)

“Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” Philippians 2:12b-13 (NIV)

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)

1. The first tool is .

“The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us do what is right.” ~ 2 Timothy 3:16 (TLB)

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” ~ Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

A. God’s will is always .

B. God will never .

2. The second tool is .
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” ~ 2 Peter 1:3 (NIV)

“As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him.” ~ 2 Corinthians 3:18b (TLB)

3. The third tool is .

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Romans 8:28 (NLT)

For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son.” Romans 8:29a (NLT)

1. You must choose .

“Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.” ~ Proverbs 4:23 (GNT)

“It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes. All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the LORD I cut them down. They surrounded me on every side, but in the name of the LORD I cut them down.” ~ Psalm 119:9-11 (NIV)

2. You must choose to depend on moment by moment.

“Take care to live in me, and let me live in you. For a branch can’t produce fruit when severed from the vine. Nor can you be fruitful apart from me. Yes, I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in me and I in him shall produce a large crop of fruit.” ~ John 15:4-5a (TLB)

3. You must choose to respond the way Jesus would.

“When all kinds of trials and temptations crowd into your lives my brothers, don’t resent them as intruders, but welcome them as friends! Realize that they come to test your faith and to produce in you the quality of endurance. But let the process go on until that endurance is fully developed, and you will find you have become men of mature character.” ~ James 1:2-4 (PHILLIPS)

“I am the door, and the person who enters through me will be saved.” John 10:9a (NCV)
