APPROACHING THE THRONE OF GRACE
Lesson 3 – PERFECT PEACE FROM GOD
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
“Worry often gives a small thing a big shadow.” – Swedish proverb ~ Daisy Calvani.
1. Do not .
“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” ~ Proverbs 12:25
And worry is a sin, for it violates the command of God.
God says, “That hurts me, that grieves me, when my children worry.” And what does worry change, anyway? In your life …. Worry changes nothing.
Winston Churchill said, “When I look back on all these worries, I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had had a lot of trouble in his life, most of which had never happened.”
2. What is the for worry?
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” ~ Philippians 4:6
“The cure to the worry- and a cure to the paralyzing anxiety- is something called the “peace of God.” Only God can give us this peace which passes all understanding. Note it’s a fruit of prayer – of honest, sincere asking, worship, and praise. We can walk away from the throne of grace, from that time of prayer with God, and God says we’ll walk away different while we’re waiting for the answer. We will have his peace. ~ Jim Cymbala
“So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless.” ~ Ecclesiastes 11:10
Prayer is: come to God at the throne of grace with your worry.
THE PRESCRIPTION TO WORRY
Supplication means: to make your request known to God. ‘Supplicate’ give your requests as if he doesn’t know them.
(Supplication is speaking to God about specific needs and asking for his intervention, provision, and help.)
“God warms his hands at man’s heart when he prays.” – John Masefield
How can we expect answers for new grace when we haven’t thanked God for what he has already done?
What helps faith grow is remembering how God has already been good in our lives –and then giving him thanks for it.
3. Have the of GOD.
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:7
Only God can give the peace which passes all understanding.
“God shapes the world by prayer. The more prayer there is in the world the better the world will be, the mightier the forces of against evil…” – E. M. Bounds
4. peace at the throne of grace.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” ~ Matthew 6:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
