Dips Leadership
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” ~ Jeremiah 29:11
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” ~ Romans 8:28
• Development dips
• Efficiency dips
• Attendance dips
“A lot of these dips that you go through in the season, it’s about persisting through the process and trusting it.” – Gerrit Cole
I. Change how you think about change:
A. People are affected by change
People don’t like people who try to make them change) – leaders must lead change
In struggles it is easy to blame something—it’s COVID19 fault, the job’s fault, church’s fault!
B. Have the courage to unmake a promise
Don’t make personal promises that will limit your leadership potential.
You cannot correct what you will not confront.
II. Be obsessed over why.
There are only two reasons people change
A. Desperation
B. Inspiration
“Every season will have its dips and hard moments, and the challenge then is to make sure you don’t get too down in those moments and make sure you come back fighting.” – Frank Lampard
C. Three reactions—
• Critics (loud boos)
“The loudest boos come from the cheap seats.” – Ed Young Jr.
• By standers
• Advocates
D. Explain why—
• Why silences critics.
• Why educates bystanders.
• Why encourages and empowers support.
• We can tolerate the pain if we understand the purpose.
E. Lead with confidence in uncertainty
• You are less vulnerable when you are confident
• Surround yourself with the right people in the unknown
• Be honest where you are in this dip
III. Accept the faith risk!
A. The pathway to your greatest potential is through your greatest fear.
B. What is no longer working and needs to be change?
C. What’s one promise you need to unmake?
D. What’s one risk you need to take?
“My mum always says work goes in waves: you have a good spell and then it dips.” – Nicholas Hoult
