Courageous Joy
Delight In God in Every Season
Lesson 1 – September 4, 2021

What is Joy?

• John Piper says, “Joy is based on the spiritual knowledge that while the world in which we live is shrouded in darkness, God has overcome the world.”

• Chrystal Evans Hurst says, “God is the true, life-giving fountain of joy. When you believe in Jesus you have something to look forward to every day.”

• Mother Theresa says, “Joy is prayer, Joy is strength, Joy is love, Joy is a net by which we catch souls.”

Why do you think God commands us to have courage?

• Too often our culture confuses joy with happiness.

• Happiness is based on  what is happening).

• Happiness is an . (Not bad)

• Joy is a fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.”

• Joy is an attitude of the .

• Joy is not about having happy thoughts; it’s choosing to clothe ourselves with
an attitude only .

• Happiness doesn’t bring joy, and joy isn’t a byproduct of happiness.

• The things in which we find joy are like a window to our souls, revealing what
matters most to us.

Where do you find yourself looking for Joy?

• Digging deeper for the true source of our joy sometimes leads to a .

• We must be  in admitting this and examining our mindset daily. “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable.
Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.“ (Philippians 4:8)

Courageous Beings with Knowing Jesus

of God and all that He gives us directly impacts how we experience the joy of His Love.

• Jesus  with us and has given us his Holy Spirit so that we can hear his voice and get to know him better through God’s word.

• Knowing Jesus requires time with him in the word of God, and that time produces a relationship full of .

• The good news is that we don’t have to do this on our own. The Holy Spirit is our Helper and wants to guide us into all grace, truth, and joy as we read, meditate, and pray on scripture.

Courageous Joy Endures All Things pleasures at your right hand

• Finding the strength to choose joy during the hardest days takes courage

• Finding courageous joy isn’t because we need to minimize that we will have pain and suffering

• Courageous joy because that’s what Jesus did.

• Jesus’ example helps us to understand that He  because it wasn’t excruciating or bearable, but because He knew that there was a greater joy coming for those who choose to trust in Him. …is what can give us .

In All Seasons

Even in the hardest, darkest, and most chaotic times of our lives, Jesus is there, and he is .

• As Christians we know this world is broken and filled with trouble and persecution, this is not our final home.

• You belong to God; you are His precious daughter, and He is your ABBA Father.

• You must be and remember that every trial you are facing is nothing compared to the glory that is coming.

Why do we need Courageous Joy?

The Spirit gives us eyes and courage to see the beauty of Jesus  up out of our hearts even when our circumstances are difficult.

• The goal of  JOY is so that we attract those who don’t know God, and they ask “Why? Where? Does your JOY come from?”

• We can be  that God will give us the courage and clarity to share exactly where our joy comes from and where others can find it too.

God has given you what you need

• Any hope or joy that a Woman of God has .

• We need a joy that we can hold onto no matter what is going on in our lives, a joy that is always accessible to us.

• Real hope and Courageous Joy can’t be by human effort.
