Christmas Eve | Jesus, God WIth Us!
December 24, 2020
A “game-changer” is “someone or something that completely changes how something is done.”
A real gamechanger…is undeniable.
Jesus is the ultimate gamechanger.
A. The story started long before Jesus came.
Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
B. An Angel revealed and confirmed God’s plan.
Luke 1:30b-33 “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
Matthew 1:20b-23 “‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.’ 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 ‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’).”
What does it mean practically when God is with us?
- Because God is with us, we can always have confidence that God has everything under control.
- Because God is with us, we are never alone.
Hebrews 13:5b “…God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’”
Jesus promised He would send us an Advocate, the Holy Spirit.
Proverbs 18:24 “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
- Because God is with us, He provides needed support.
1 Kings 19:4b “…He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,’ he said. ‘Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.’”
1 Kings 19:19 “So Elijah went from there and found Elisha…”
4. Because God is with us, He offers eternal life.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
1 John 5:11b-12a “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life…”
