Why

Welcome to part 2 of the series entitled “The Assignment”. Today we are examining the ‘Why’ concerning our assignment. Last week we looked at the importance of seeing things differently. If we are going to fully understand our assignment and fulfill it, we must be willing to allow the Holy Spirit to bring revelation into our lives, transforming our lives, so that we can see our assignment clearly.
Here are a few questions you may be asking?
Why should I fulfill my calling and assignment?
Why can’t I simply be saved and live my own life doing what I want to do?
I thought my salvation was a free gift. Why do I need to do anything?
Today we will examine two aspects of the “Why”. There are many, but there are a several that I believe are the most impacting reasons why.
Opening Text:
1 Peter 4:10-11 (TPT)
10 Every believer has received grace gifts, so use them to serve one another as faithful stewards of the many-colored tapestry of God’s grace.
11 For example, if you have a speaking gift, speak as though God were speaking his words through you. If you have the gift of serving, do it passionately with the strength God gives you, so that in everything God alone will be glorified through Jesus Christ. For to him belong the power and the glory forever throughout all ages! Amen.
Matthew 25:14-28 – Parable of the Talents
Luke 12:42 – 48 – Parable of the Wise/Faithful Servant
Why I should fulfill my assignment.
- Fulfillment
- Well done good and faithful servant – Matthew 25:14-28; Luke 19:11-17
- The Joy set before Him – Hebrews 12:1-2
- The Impact of your obedience – Fulfillment comes from doing what you were created to do. 1 Thes 2:19-20
- Responsibility/Obedience
- As each has received a gift – 1 Peter 4:10; 1 For 4:1-2
- Grace of God not in vain – 1 Cor 15:10-11
- Parable of the Talents & Wise Servant – Matthew 25:14-28; Luke 12:35-40
Example of Responsibility – The Gift of a Brand New Vehicle
Fulfilling our assignment brings fulfillment and is our responsibility. Salvation is a free gift, our giftings are free gifts but each comes with responsibility. In the world – the spirit of the anti-christ – (the result of sin) – is to have an attitude that it is not my responsibility…I am a victim of life, of church – etc. Let someone else do it.
The problem with this mentality and thinking is that as a believer you are responsible for your gifting and assignment. You will give an account for the completion of your assignment – a failure in that will lead to a loss of reward and blessing.
We are living in this world – this age that is temporary but it is not without importance or impact. What you and I do in this world impacts what our eternity looks like. It also impacts the lives of others and their eternal lives.
