Conquering the Storm Pt 2

Overcoming Faith Notes

Storms of life come and go. A storm is no respecter of person. It doesn’t matter if you are a follower of Christ or not, you will face storms in your life. We all do! The difference is, we as children of God get to choose whether we will conquer the storm or the storm will conquer us.

A storm is anything that stands in the way of your obedience to the will of God for your life. It is meant to make things more difficult, push you off your course, distract you, dismantle your faith and ultimately to destroy you.

The Storms of Life are conquered by Faith.

Facing a storm is not an indication of whether you are living by faith. Your faith determines your outcome from the storm.

Opening Text:

Mark 4:35-41; Matthew 8:23-27; Luke 8:22-35

Key Elements of this Passage

– Let us go to the other side.

– Jesus was in their boat.

– Jesus had a peace on the inside before He spoke peace to the outside (asleep in the middle of the storm).

– Where is your faith?

Your Victory, My Victory over everything that we are facing and will face in this world, will be conquered by Faith.

1 John 5:4 (AMP)

4 For whatever is born of God is victorious over the world; and this is the victory that conquers the world, even our faith.

The Disciples believed in Jesus, but in this situation they did not fully believe Jesus.

1. An Overcoming faith Believes

Hebrews 11:6

– Must believe that He is God – Must believe in God

In His Existence as God, the only True God

– Must believe He is a rewarder – Must believe God

That God does what He says – His Word is True/The Truth

Our Example – Believing Abraham

Romans 4:3 (NKJV)

3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”

Romans 4:18-20 (NKJV)

18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.” 19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

2. An Overcoming Faith works through Obedience

James 2:14,18-20 (NKJV)

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe— and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

Abraham didn’t only believe in God, Abraham believed God, therefore he obeyed God.

Faith believes in God, but also believes God.

Believing in God says God can do what His word says.

Believing God is knowing that He will do what His word says.

Believing in God vs. Believing God

God can heal me / God has healed me

God can deliver me / God does deliver me

God can protect me / God does protect me

God can provide for me / God does provide for me

Are there areas of your life where you are not believing God?

Write them Down
